On July 9, 2026, the CPSC issued a product safety warning urging consumers to immediately stop using and dispose of METASONO and MEATSONO heated insoles due to the risk of serious burn injury and fire [1]. The manufacturer, shenzhenshiyunxichawenhuayouxiangongsi dba METASONO-US of China, has been unresponsive to CPSC requests for a recall or product safety information. Federal law prohibits any person from selling products subject to a CPSC safety warning of this nature.
What Products Are Affected?
The warning covers approximately 1,173 METASONO and MEATSONO heated insoles — navy blue insoles with a multicolored design, containing a lithium-ion battery in the heel area and operated by a remote control. “METASONO” is printed on both sides of the insole.
The defective insoles were sold on Amazon.com and eBay.com from July 2023 through July 2026 for between $28 and $70.
What Is the Hazard?
The internal lithium-ion battery inside the recalled insoles can explode and ignite — even when the insoles are turned off. Because the battery is embedded in the heel of an insole worn directly inside a shoe against the foot, any explosion or ignition can cause immediate and severe burns before the wearer has any opportunity to react.
Incidents and Injuries
The CPSC is aware of 14 reports of fires, explosions, and other thermal incidents involving the defective insoles. Those incidents resulted in at least 10 burn injuries, including serious second- and third-degree burns requiring skin graft surgery.
What Should Consumers Do?
Consumers who own METASONO or MEATSONO heated insoles should stop wearing them immediately and dispose of them through a municipal household hazardous waste (HHW) collection center — the defective lithium-ion battery must not be placed in regular trash, curbside recycling, or standard retail battery drop-off boxes. Consumers should contact their local HHW facility ahead of time to confirm it accepts defective lithium-ion batteries before bringing the product in.
Any incidents involving injury or product defects should be reported to the CPSC at www.SaferProducts.gov, or by calling the CPSC hotline at 800-638-2772 (TTY 800-638-8270), available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET.
