On August 28, 2026, Panorama Produce of Mamaroneck, New York announced a voluntary recall of 302 boxes of size 9 Martina-brand mangoes due to possible Salmonella contamination. The FDA published the recall announcement on August 29, 2026 [1]. The recall was initiated after FDA sampling identified Salmonella in mangoes grown on the same Mexican farm as the recalled product, though in mangoes that were not distributed into U.S. commerce.
What Product Is Affected?
The recall covers 302 boxes of size 9 mangoes packaged in a Martina-branded case. Individual mangoes can be identified by the following characteristics:
- A light blue Agrofepac sticker on the individual fruit
- Label text: “Produce of Mexico”
- PLU Number: 4584
- UPC: 07503061948050
The recalled mangoes were distributed from August 10 through August 21, 2026, and sold in select Walmart stores in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Consumers should use the PLU number and sticker description to determine whether their mangoes are included in the recall, as individual fruit may no longer have original packaging.
What Is the Hazard?
The recalled mangoes have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, a bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections. Young children, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems face the greatest risk of severe illness.
Healthy individuals infected with Salmonella typically experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the infection can enter the bloodstream and lead to more serious conditions including arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.
What Caused the Recall?
The recall was triggered by FDA sampling that found Salmonella in mangoes grown on the same farm in Mexico as the recalled product, though those sampled mangoes were not distributed into U.S. commerce. Because the recalled mangoes and the sampled mangoes share the same source, Panorama Produce initiated the recall as a precautionary measure.
Incidents and Injuries
No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled mangoes as of the August 28, 2026 recall date.
What Should Consumers Do?
Consumers who purchased Martina-brand size 9 mangoes with the Agrofepac sticker and PLU number 4584 from a Walmart store in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, or Pennsylvania between August 10 and August 21, 2026 should not eat them and should discard them or return them to the place of purchase. Any surfaces or utensils that came into contact with the recalled mangoes should be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized.
