Manufactured in China.

Recall Details and Affected Products

The recalled products include three models of Lancaster Table & Seating powder-coated aluminum outdoor chairs and barstools sold under 180 item numbers:

  • Arm chairs – chairs with arms in powder-coated aluminum construction
  • Side chairs – chairs without arms in powder-coated aluminum construction
  • Barstools – bar-height seating in powder-coated aluminum construction

The chairs and barstools were sold in multiple colors including blue, brown, dark gray, light gray/silver, red, white, aqua, black, green, sangria/burgundy, yellow, and orange. The chairs were sold both individually and with accompanying outdoor tables. The outdoor tables are not subject to the recall.

Item numbers can be found on order confirmation emails, shipping confirmation emails, and invoices. A full list of affected item numbers and examples of colors are available at www.webstaurantstore.com/uploads/Clark_Associates/2026/1/lts-recall-list-of-affected-products-1.pdf.

The legs of the chairs and barstools can bend or break while in use, posing a fall hazard to consumers and restaurant patrons.

Health Risks

  • Serious injuries from falls when chair or barstool legs break or bend.
  • Risk of broken bones, sprains, and impact injuries.
  • Head injuries from unexpected falls.
  • Back and spinal injuries from sudden collapses.
  • Cuts, bruises, and lacerations from falling onto broken chair components.
  • Elevated fall risk from barstool height.

Documented Incidents and Injuries

The firm has received 36 reports of broken or bent chair legs, resulting in four falls and three injuries. These documented incidents demonstrate a systematic structural defect in the chairs and barstools that poses ongoing risks to consumers and restaurant patrons. The pattern of leg failures indicates inadequate structural integrity in the product design or manufacturing process.

Given that these chairs and barstools are marketed for commercial restaurant use, the actual number of affected consumers is likely much higher than the documented reports, as many incidents in restaurant settings may go unreported to the manufacturer.

Why These Chairs and Barstools Were Defective

The Lancaster Table & Seating chairs and barstools suffered from a critical structural defect that caused the legs to bend or break during normal use. Commercial-grade restaurant furniture must be engineered to withstand regular use, varying weight loads, and the rigors of daily service in restaurant environments. The widespread reports of leg failures demonstrate that these products did not meet basic structural integrity standards for their intended commercial use.

The defect appears to be inherent in the product design or manufacturing process, as the recall affects chairs and barstools sold over a five-year period across 180 different item numbers. This suggests a systematic failure rather than isolated manufacturing defects, raising serious questions about quality control and safety testing procedures.

Commercial Product Safety Standards

Restaurant furniture and commercial seating products must meet heightened safety standards due to their use in public-facing business environments. Unlike residential furniture used by a single family, commercial chairs and barstools are subject to constant use by diverse patrons of varying sizes and weights. Manufacturers have a responsibility to ensure their commercial-grade products can withstand this intensive use without posing fall hazards.

The failure of the Lancaster chairs and barstools to maintain structural integrity during normal use represents a fundamental breach of the safety expectations for commercial restaurant furniture. Restaurant owners and operators rely on manufacturers to provide safe, durable seating that will not endanger their customers.

Impact on Restaurant Businesses

The recall poses particular challenges for restaurant and hospitality businesses that purchased these chairs and barstools for commercial use. Restaurants may have purchased dozens or even hundreds of units, representing significant capital investments in their establishments. The sudden need to remove and replace defective seating can disrupt business operations, reduce seating capacity, and create unexpected financial burdens.

Additionally, restaurants that experienced customer injuries from chair or barstool failures may face liability claims, insurance complications, and reputational damage—all stemming from defective products they purchased in good faith for their establishments.

Potential for a Lancaster Chair Recall Class Action Lawsuit

Consumers and businesses affected by these recalled chairs and barstools may be entitled to compensation through class action litigation. Potential claims include:

  • Sale of structurally defective chairs and barstools with legs that bend or break during normal use.
  • Failure to adequately test products for structural integrity before marketing for commercial restaurant use.
  • Continued sale of dangerous products over a five-year period despite known defects.
  • Marketing products as suitable for commercial restaurant use when they posed fall hazards.
  • Economic losses from purchasing defective furniture for commercial or residential use.
  • Medical expenses and pain and suffering from fall injuries.
  • Business losses for restaurants forced to replace defective seating and reduce capacity.
  • Liability exposure for restaurants whose customers were injured by defective chairs.

Potential compensation may cover medical treatment costs for fall injuries, pain and suffering damages, product purchase costs, business interruption losses for commercial purchasers, costs to replace defective seating, liability damages for restaurants facing customer injury claims, and punitive damages for continued sale of defective products. The documented pattern of 36 reports of broken or bent chair legs over a five-year period strengthens potential claims against the manufacturer and importer.

Federal Law Prohibits Resale

Federal law makes it illegal to sell, resell, or distribute recalled products. Lancaster chair and barstool owners must follow the recall remedy process and properly dispose of the products rather than selling them online, donating to charities, or giving them away. The marking requirement ensures these dangerous products cannot reach other consumers or businesses who might suffer fall injuries.
