On July 9, 2026, Greenworks North America, LLC, dba Greenworks Tools of Mooresville, North Carolina announced a voluntary recall of Kobalt 24V and 48V yard power tools with USB-C batteries in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) [1]. The recalled tools were manufactured in China and Vietnam and sold exclusively at Lowe’s stores and Lowes.com.
What Products Are Affected?
The recall covers Kobalt-branded trimmers, blowers, mowers, chainsaws, pruning saws, bristle brush kits, power cleaners, and battery packs that use 24V USB-C batteries in 3.0Ah, 4.0Ah, 5.0Ah, 6.0Ah, and 8.0Ah capacities. Only products with USB-C batteries are included in the recall. Affected products include:

The recalled tools and batteries were sold at Lowe’s stores nationwide and online at Lowes.com from January 2026 through May 2026 for between $20 and $482.
What Is the Hazard?
Charging the lithium-ion batteries through the USB-C port while the batteries are still inserted in the yard power tools can cause the batteries to short-circuit. A short-circuiting lithium-ion battery in a power tool can produce smoke, sparks, and open flames, posing a serious fire hazard to consumers and surrounding property.
Incidents and Injuries
Greenworks Tools has received 34 reports of the USB-C batteries producing smoke, sparking, or catching fire while inserted in the tool during charging. No injuries or property damage have been reported to date.
What Should Consumers Do?
Consumers who own any of the recalled Kobalt yard power tools with USB-C batteries should immediately stop charging the batteries through the USB-C port while the batteries are inserted in the tools. To receive a free replacement battery without a USB-C port, a charger adapter, a warning label, an updated product manual, and a prepaid return shipping label, consumers should register at www.greenworkstools.com/pages/kobalt-product-recall.
