What’s the Problem?
This CPSC Recall began on May 6, 2021, and affects:
- Kidde Smoke Detector Model 2040-DSR
- Kidde Smoke Detector Model 2050-DS10
- Kidde Smoke Detector Model 2060-ASR

“The smoke alarm and the combination smoke/carbon monoxide (CO) alarm can fail to alert consumers to a fire,” CPSC said.
The recalled alarms have the TruSense logo or “AMBER=FAULT” printed on the front of the alarm. The model number is printed on the back of the alarm.
Affected alarms were sold online and at Walmart, Home Depot, Menards and other department, home and hardware stores and electrical distributors nationwide from May 2019 through September 2020 for between $10 and $70.
Consumers who purchased a recalled smoke alarm should contact Kidde for a free replacement alarm. Consumers should keep using the recalled alarms until they install replacement alarms.
The CPSC Recall Number for these items is 21-130.
Kidde issued another recall for 452,000 Dual Sensor Smoke Alarms in March 2018 over concerns that a yellow cap left on during the manufacturing process can cover 1 of the 2 smoke sensors and compromise the smoke alarm’s ability to detect smoke, posing a risk of consumers not being alerted to a fire in their home.
The company also recalled 38 million Kidde fire extinguishers in November 2017 after the devices were linked to nearly 400 reports of nozzles detaching use, which resulted in 1 death, 16 injuries and 91 property damage claims.
