Latest Updates

On May 5, 2026, John B. Sanfilippo & Son, Inc. of Elgin, Illinois announced a voluntary recall of snack mix products flavored with a seasoning that contained recalled dry milk powder. The FDA published the recall announcement on May 6, 2026 [1]. No illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall to date, and the affected seasoning batches tested negative for Salmonella prior to use. The company is acting out of an abundance of caution.

What Products Are Affected?

The recall covers snack mix products sold under four brand names. The Good & Gather product was sold exclusively at Target stores, while the remaining items were distributed through retail stores, e-commerce platforms, and QVC. The affected products include:

What Is the Hazard?

The recalled snack mixes have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, a bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections. Young children, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems face the greatest risk of severe illness.

Healthy individuals infected with Salmonella may experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the infection can enter the bloodstream and lead to more serious conditions, including arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.

What Caused the Recall?

The recall was triggered by a separate voluntary recall issued by California Dairies, Inc. involving dry milk powder with potential Salmonella contamination. A third-party supplier used that milk powder in a seasoning blend, which John B. Sanfilippo & Son, Inc. then used to flavor the affected snack mix products. Although the seasoning batches tested negative for Salmonella before use in production, the company initiated this recall as a precautionary measure.

Incidents and Injuries

No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled products to date.
