What’s the Problem?
This FDA Recall was issued on August 18, 2020, and affects goldenseal root powder from North Little Rock, Arkansas-based Maison Terre Natural Products, which was originally purchased from Starwest Botanicals, of Sacramento, California.
The recall was ordered after routine testing by the FDA identified the presence of Enterobacter cloacae, Cronobacter sakazakii, Cronobacter dublinensis and other microorganisms in the goldenseal root powder products.
Use of contaminated goldenseal root powder can cause severe infections requiring surgery to treat, FDA said, and “In individuals with weak immune systems and infants, the use of the product can result in death.”
The recalled products were distributed nationwide via online sales from January 5, 2015, to August 4, 2020.
Consumers who purchased any recalled goldenseal root powder should not consume it or apply it, and either discard it or contact Maison Terre for information about how to obtain a refund.
