On August 20, 2026, Goal Zero of Draper, Utah announced a voluntary recall of the YETI 3000X Portable Power Station in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) [1]. Approximately 46,200 units are affected. The power stations were manufactured in China and imported by Goal Zero.
What Product Is Affected?
The recall covers the Goal Zero YETI 3000X Portable Power Station — a large, silver and black unit measuring approximately 24.4 inches high, 18.5 inches wide, and 22.3 inches deep, weighing about 92 pounds. The power station features yellow handles, a digital display at the front with multiple electrical ports, and sits on a rolling cart with two built-in wheels and a telescoping handle.
The Goal Zero logo is printed on the front bar of the cart, and “Goal Zero” and “YETI 3000X” are printed on a nameplate on the underside of the station’s lid. The recalled power stations were sold at REI stores nationwide and online at Costco.com, Backcountry.com, Goalzero.com, and other online retailers from May 2020 through August 2025 for approximately $3,000.
What Is the Hazard?
The circuit board inside the recalled YETI 3000X can overheat, posing a serious risk of fire and burn hazards. A fire originating inside a large lithium-ion battery-based power station can escalate rapidly and is notoriously difficult to extinguish — presenting a serious threat to anyone in proximity and to surrounding property.
Incidents and Injuries
Goal Zero has received four reports of the recalled power stations catching fire, overheating, and smoking. No injuries have been reported to date.
What Should Consumers Do?
Consumers who own the recalled Goal Zero YETI 3000X should stop using it immediately. The free repair is a firmware update available through the Goal Zero app — consumers can download and install the update themselves through the application, or contact Goal Zero to have the firmware installed at no cost.
