What Is the Hazard?

The recalled powdered beverage mixes have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, a bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections. Young children, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems face the greatest risk of severe illness.

Healthy individuals infected with Salmonella may experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the infection can enter the bloodstream and lead to more serious conditions, including arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.

What Caused the Recall?

The recall was triggered by a separate voluntary recall issued by California Dairies, Inc. involving milk powder with potential Salmonella contamination. That milk powder was supplied to a third-party manufacturer and used as an ingredient in Ghirardelli’s powdered beverage mixes.

Ghirardelli is working with its distribution partners and the FDA to address the recall and remove affected products from the market.

What Should Consumers Do?

Consumers who purchased any of the recalled Ghirardelli powdered beverage mixes should not consume the products. They should be set aside and not used.

Consumers with questions may contact Ghirardelli Chocolate Company directly at 1-844-776-0419, available seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

Can I File a Lawsuit?

Consumers who purchased recalled Ghirardelli powdered beverage mixes — or who suffered illness as a result — may have legal options. A class action lawsuit could allow affected consumers to seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and other related losses. Contact an attorney to learn more about your rights.
