About the Recalled Space Heater
The recall covers the DREO model DR-HSH015 ceramic space heater — a black unit approximately 11.5 inches wide and 13 inches tall that comes with a remote control, with “DREO” printed on the front. Only units manufactured from April 2025 through January 2026 are included; the manufacture date in YYYY/MM format and the model number appear on a label on the underside of the unit.
Latest Updates
The CPSC issued Fast Track Recall No. 27-054 on October 29, 2026, covering approximately 338,800 units in the United States and an additional 36,300 units sold in Canada, citing the risk that the heaters can overheat and ignite [1]. DREO had received 17 reports of units catching fire before the recall was announced, resulting in 3 property damage incidents and 1 burn injury to a consumer’s hand [2]. Consumers are directed to stop using the heater immediately and contact DREO for a free replacement unit [3].
Where the Recalled Heaters Were Sold
The DR-HSH015 was sold at Costco stores nationwide and online at Dreo.com, BestBuy.com, Kohls.com, Lowes.com, QVC.com, HomeDepot.com, Costco.com, and B2BRenew.com. Sales ran from September 2025 through October 2026 at prices between $70 and $110.
The Fire and Burn Hazard
The CPSC determined that the DR-HSH015 can overheat and ignite, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers and their homes. Space heater fires are among the most common causes of residential fire deaths in the United States, and a ceramic heater that ignites without warning creates an immediate risk to anyone in the room and to the structure of the home.
DREO’s 17 ignition reports represent incidents in which the unit actually caught fire — not merely overheated — before the recall was initiated. The gap between the 17 documented ignitions and only 1 reported injury reflects the unpredictable nature of space heater fires: in some incidents the fire was contained or extinguished before anyone was hurt; in others, property damage occurred without an injury being formally reported to the company.
Reported Injuries and Damage
One consumer sustained a burn injury to the hand in connection with a DR-HSH015 ignition incident prior to the October 29, 2026 recall. Three additional incidents resulted in property damage.
No deaths were reported in connection with this recall. With 338,800 units in U.S. circulation and a known overheating defect, the potential for serious injury or death if a unit ignites in a bedroom or near flammable materials remains a significant concern for consumers who have not yet received the replacement.
Can I File a Lawsuit?
