About the Recalled Products
The Disney bassinet recall covers two products sold by Dorel Juvenile Group USA of Foxboro, Massachusetts: the Disney Baby Doze and Dream Bassinet/Rocker (model BT071DHS, purple) and the Eddie Bauer Slumber and Soothe Rock Bassinet/Rocker (model BT055CSY, beige). Both products are rectangular, cushioned-fabric inclined sleepers that stand approximately two feet off the floor and were designed for infants from birth to six months. The model number appears on a label located under the fabric of the sleeper pad.
Latest Updates
The CPSC and Dorel Juvenile Group USA issued Fast Track Recall No. 19-177 on July 31, 2019, directing consumers to immediately stop using the inclined sleepers and advising that infant fatalities had been reported with other inclined sleep products after infants rolled from their backs to their stomachs or sides [1]. The recall followed the April 2019 recall of 4.7 million Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play Sleepers, which the CPSC linked to at least 30 infant deaths over a decade and which triggered a sweeping industry-wide review of all inclined sleep products [2]. No deaths or injuries were reported specific to the Disney Baby or Eddie Bauer products at the time of the recall, but the CPSC found the inclined sleep hazard present in the Dorel design and proceeded with a formal recall rather than waiting for injuries to occur [3].
How the Disney Bassinet Puts Infants at Risk
The Disney Baby Doze and Dream Bassinet/Rocker is an inclined sleeper — a product designed with the sleep surface angled steeply enough that infants can shift position during sleep, rolling from their backs onto their sides or stomachs. When an infant’s face presses against the soft, padded sides of an inclined sleeper, or when the airway becomes compressed by the head slumping forward in the inclined position, suffocation can occur rapidly and without warning.
Newborns and young infants have no capacity to reposition themselves when their breathing becomes obstructed. A product marketed as a bassinet — a word that implies a safe, flat sleep environment — and sold under a brand as trusted as Disney gave parents no reason to suspect that using it as directed could kill their child.
Sold Under the Disney Name to New Parents
The Disney Baby brand is licensed specifically because the Disney name carries exceptional consumer trust — parents associate it with safety, quality, and products designed with children’s wellbeing in mind. Selling an inclined sleeper under that name, and calling it a bassinet, compounded the underlying design hazard with a marketing promise the product could not keep.
A parent browsing baby products who saw “Disney Baby Doze and Dream Bassinet” had every reason to believe they were purchasing a safe infant sleep environment. The brand name, the product name, and the retail placement in major national stores all communicated safety and reliability that the product did not provide.
A Recall Driven by Industry-Wide Failure
The July 2019 Disney bassinet recall was not initiated because Dorel received death reports specific to its own products. It was driven by the CPSC’s recognition — following the April 2019 Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play recall — that the inclined sleep design is inherently hazardous regardless of brand or model, and that any product placing a sleeping infant on an inclined surface above 10 degrees poses an unacceptable suffocation risk.
That recognition came years after these products first reached shelves, and years after the science linking inclined sleep to infant suffocation was available. Parents who purchased the Disney Baby Doze and Dream Bassinet between November 2014 and February 2017 had no way of knowing the product was dangerous — and the companies that designed, licensed, and sold it did.
Reported Incidents
No deaths or injuries specific to the Disney Baby Doze and Dream Bassinet/Rocker or the Eddie Bauer Slumber and Soothe Rock Bassinet/Rocker were reported to the CPSC at the time of the July 31, 2019 recall. The recall was issued on a precautionary basis consistent with the hazard profile established across all inclined sleep products.
Can I Join the Disney Bassinet Lawsuit?

What to Do Now
Stop using the Disney Baby Doze and Dream Bassinet/Rocker immediately and do not use any inclined sleeper as a sleep surface for an infant. Contact Dorel Juvenile Group USA at 877-657-9546 (Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. ET), text 812-373-6673, or email inclinesleeperrecall@djgusa.com to request your $60 refund voucher. Always place infants on their backs on a firm, flat surface — a crib, bassinet with a flat mattress, or play yard with a fitted sheet only — and remove all loose bedding, pillows, and padding from the sleep area.
