What is Dilantin?

Dilantin (generic: Phenytoin) is used to control seizures in certain types of epilepsy. It is also used to prevent seizures during or after surgery. Dilantin is made by Pfizer Inc., and was approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) in April 2002.

What’s the Problem?

Phenytoin toxicity occurs when the daily dose of Dilantin is increased or your body is overdosed with the drug either accidentally or intentionally. The suitable blood concentration of Dilantin typically ranges from 10 micrograms per milliliter to 20 micrograms per milliliter. When the level reaches 30 micrograms per milliliter or more, phenytoin toxicity may result

Dilantin & Cerebellar Atrophy

Recent studies have linked the long-term use of Dilantin to an increased risk of permanent cerebellar atrophy, a neurological disease characterized by a wasting of the brain, brainstem and spinal cord. Atrophy occurs when human tissue decreases in size or shrinks to a size smaller than normal (or what is considered average).

  • Poor muscle tone and coordination

Side Effects of Phenytoin

Why Our Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action

Although we are a nationally recognized class action firm, the Products Liability Litigation Group at our law firm has decided against the filing of a Dilantin class action suit and is currently filing individual claims on behalf of injured individuals and/or their family members that have been diagnosed with phenytoin toxicity after taking Dilantin.

It has been our experience that in this type of litigation, class action suits can be a detriment to many class members, as they are often forced into a blanket “low ball settlement” and higher attorney fees. At Schmidt & Clark, LLP we understand that our clients are suffering emotionally and economically due to loss of wages and/or high medical bills and we plan to maximize each client’s recovery by filing individual Dilantin lawsuits on their behalf.

Do I Have a Dilantin Phenytoin Toxicity Lawsuit?

The Class Action Litigation Group at our law firm is an experienced team of trial lawyers that focus on the representation of plaintiffs in Dilantin lawsuits. We are handling individual litigation nationwide and currently accepting new phenytoin toxicity cases in all 50 states.

Free Case Evaluation: Again, if you developed symptoms of phenytoin toxicity or other serious side effects after taking Dilantin, you should contact our law firm immediately. You may be entitled to compensation by filing a lawsuit and we can help.
