What is Detox Tea?
Detox teas are intended to flush toxins out of your body, with many of the products marketed as promising weight loss as an added bonus. Unfortunately, there’s very little evidence to support these claims, as well as a lack of research on the herbal formulas or blends that are found in detox teas including how they work, how much should be used, and who shouldn’t take them.
What’s the Problem?
Like all dietary supplements, the ingredients in detox teas aren’t regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In recent years, many of these teas have been found to be adulterated with dangerous drugs and chemicals not advertised on the packaging. So, while some detox teas may contain normal ingredients like tea leaves, others may contain toxic substances, including drugs and medications.

Detox Tea Maker Settles FTC Lawsuit Over Deceptive Marketing
The tea marketer Teami LLC has settled a lawsuit with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) over health claims the company has made about its teas and skin care products, according to Healthline. Teami LLC agreed to settle charges over false claims that its Teami 30 Day Detox Pack would help consumers lose weight. The FTC said Teami also stated that its teas fight cancer, clear clogged arteries, decrease migraines, treat and prevent influenza, and fight colds. All of the claims lacked reliable scientific evidence, FTC said in levying the $15 million judgment against Teami.
