What’s the problem?

Johnson & Johnson, the company that owns DePuy Synthes, announced in Jan. 2017 that it was recalling its radial head elbow prosthesis after over 40 reports of loosening in the component that anchors the implant were filed with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA). The entire device is used for primary and revision replacement of the radial head, but only the radial stem that is implanted into the radius has been associated with the loosening problem, according to a letter J&J sent to physicians on Dec. 30, 2016.

DePuy Synthes Elbow Complications

  • Severe pain
  • Osteolysis (bone loss)
  • Bone fracture around the implant
  • Soft tissue damage / irritation
  • Implant loosening
  • Premature failure
  • The need for revision surgery

What are DePuy Synthes Elbow Lawsuits Alleging?

Most lawsuits filed over complications alleged from the DePuy Synthes elbow replacement will likely involve the injuries that led to the device’s removal – Loosening, Dislocation, and Revision Surgery.

Between 2014 and December 2016, FDA received over 40 reports of the DePuy Synthes Radial Head Prosthesis System loosening. Repairing the complication required additional surgical intervention in many cases.

Has a Class Action Been Filed?

The first lawsuits alleging complications from DePuy Synthes Elbow Replacements have only recently been filed, and no class action status has been certified to our knowledge. The Radial Head Prosthesis System was pulled from the market in December 2016, and it typically takes many years (or even decades) and scores of consumer complaints before class action status is considered for a particular litigation. But that doesn’t mean you’re out of luck if you’ve been injured. Our lawyers are now filing individual lawsuits for injured parties. Contact us today to learn more about your legal rights.
