What’s the Problem?
April 5, 2017 – GSK issued the recall because the Ventolin asthma inhalers may not deliver the stated number of dosages, according to an FDA Enforcement Report.
Recalled lot numbers include:
- 6ZP9848, Exp 03/18
- 6ZP0003, 6ZP9944, Exp 04/18
The devices have been recalled from hospitals, pharmacies, retailers and wholesalers in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
This is not a patient-level recall, but patients whose inhalers are among the affected lots can contact GSK with questions. If the devices are not relieving symptoms, patients should seek immediate medical treatment.
This is an FDA Class II recall, which means the product may cause temporary or medically reversible side effects.
GSK is investigating the issue in order to identify the root cause and implement appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
“We currently don’t anticipate a supply impact to Ventolin HFA 200D inhaler as a result of this issue,” GSK said in a statement.
