What’s the Problem?

June 11, 2017 – Uber’s senior vice president for business, Emil Michael, and CEO Travis Kalanick have left their posts following a company board meeting which focused on an investigation into the company’s cultures and business practices.

At the meeting, Uber’s board adopted a series of recommendations from former U.S Attorney General Eric Holder. Details of the recommendations will be made public Tuesday, according to Reuters.

Uber will also be hiring a new independent director, Nestle exec and Alibaba board member Wan Ling Martello, a company spokesman said.

Holder and his law firm were retained in February by Uber to investigate company practices after former engineer Susan Fowler published a blog post detailing what she described as sexual harassment and a lack of a response by upper management.

Holder’s firm recommended placing greater controls on spending, human resources and other areas where top-tier execs have had unusual autonomy for a company of more than 12,000 employees, sources familiar with the matter said.
