What’s the Problem?
October 20, 2017 – Relish Foods on Thursday announced a recall for its Frozen Newport Brand Tuna Loins after the products were found to contain salmonella, according to a recall notice issued by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA).
The recalled tuna was distributed to food service operations, retail stores, and restaurants in Washington, Oregon, Northern California, Nevada, Idaho, and Arizona 8/15/2017 to 9/25/2017.
Affected products were distributed as 5 to 8 pound, vacuum packed, frozen whole tuna loins packed in 30 pound Newport brand master cases, which were labeled with the following production lot codes:
- MTNT 0947C
- MTNT 0957B
- MTNT 0967A
- MTNT 0977D
Retailers who received the recalled tuna loins include:
- Randall’s Fine Meats
- Yokes Fresh Market
- Concord Produce Market
- Bel Air Market
- Speedy Market
- Nob Hill
See the FDA recall notice for a complete list of retail locations the recalled tuna may have been sold in an unbranded form.
Salmonella refers to a group of bacteria that cause severe intestinal tract infections in humans and other warm blooded animals. Typhoid fever, food poisoning, gastroenteritis and enteric fever are all types of salmonella infection.
Signs and symptoms of salmonellosis include abdominal cramps, diarrhea and vomiting, which tend to appear 12 to 72 hours after infection.
Can I File a Class Action?
Although Schmidt & Clark, LLP, is a nationally-recognized class action firm, our lawyers have decided against filing such a claim in the Relish Foods Tuna litigation, and are only accepting potential individual claims on behalf of people who were diagnosed with salmonella food poisoning (salmonellosis) after eating the recalled products. Individual lawsuits are far more beneficial than a class action in these types of claims, as they maximize compensation for plaintiffs and lower attorney fees.
