San Antonio-based retailer H-E-B is recalling bulk and packaged raw shelled pistachio products due to potential salmonella contamination.

What’s the Problem?
December 14, 2016 – Included in the recall are raw pistachios packaged in plastic containers with the labels Shelled Pistachios or Central Market Shelled Pistachios with best by dates of Jan. 1. Recalled from the bulk section were pistachios with the SunRidge Farms labels Women’s Vitality Mix, Pistachio Nuts and Dark Chocolate Pistachios that were purchased on or after May 15.
All affected products have been removed from H-E-B and Central Market Texas stores, and no illness have been reported in connection with the recall. The potential contamination was discovered during routine sampling by the FDA.
Salmonella Poisoning Symptoms
Salmonella infections can be accompanied by a broad range of illness. The most common clinical presentation is acute gastroenteritis. Symptoms typically include varying degrees of:
- Abdominal cramps
- Fever of 100°F to 102°F
- Bloody diarrhea
- Body aches
