What’s the Problem?

May 8, 2015 – Lumber Liquidators announced this week that all of its 365 stores would be suspending sales of laminate wood flooring sourced from Chinese manufacturers, according to the Wall Street Journal. The company as been under fire since a March 1 report on “60 Minutes” revealed illegal levels of formaldehyde in some of its flooring.

Flooring Recalled in Response to ‘Customer Demand’

Lumber Liquidators insists its products are safe; however, CEO Robert Lynch said last week the company would be scaling back its Chinese flooring in response to “customer demand.” Wednesday’s announcement goes further, completely eliminating the product from its inventory.

The company’s website now lists 55 varieties of laminate flooring for sale, compared to 84 on Mar. 26. Last week, Lumber Liquidators said it was turning toward North American and European manufacturers for its laminate flooring; however, it remains unclear how quickly those companies can replace the Chinese products that are being pulled off the market now.
