December 13, 2018 – The U by Kotex tampons have forced women to “seek medical attention to remove tampon pieces left in the body,” the manufacturer said. “There also have been a small number of reports of infections, vaginal irritation, localized vaginal injury, and other symptoms.”
The recall affects regular-absorbency U by Kotex Sleek tampons produced between Oct. 7, 2016, and Oct. 16, 2018, according to the FDA. Products were sold in 18-count, 34-count and 3-count packages, as well as being included in 34-count multipacks of various types of tampons.
More than 200 separate lots are included in the recall, FDA said. The lot number can be found on the bottom of the package; enter this number into Kimberly-Clark’s recall website.
Side Effects of U by Kotex Sleek
- Urogenital infections (such as bladder and/or vaginal bacterial and/or yeast infections)
- Vaginal infections (such as itching or swelling)
- Vagina injuries (such as pain, bleeding, or discomfort)
- Other symptoms (such as hot flashes, abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting)
If you’ve experienced a problem using Kotex tampons, FDA recommends that you contact your doctor immediately. Waiting to do so could put you at risk of developing Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS), a life-threatening complication of bacterial infection.
Consumers who have purchased recalled Kotex tampons should not return them to stores, and instead call Kimberly-Clark for further instructions. A spokesman says the company is reimbursing people who purchased packages affected by the recall.
