What’s the Problem?
May 30, 2017 – The recalls affects BMW 745i, 745Li, 750i, 750Li, 760i, 760Li, and B7 Alpina cars from model years 2005 through 2008, according to the Los Angeles Times.
All vehicles are equipped with the comfort access and soft door close options, which can malfunction over time. BMW said the doors on affected vehicles may appear to be closed but can inadvertently swing open due to road conditions or occupant contact.
No known crashes or injuries related to the issue have been reported to date; however, BMW only issued the recall following a request from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to investigate the problem following multiple customer complaints.
Specifically, the agency inquired about a 2012 recall of about 7,500 7 Series sedans from model years 2005 to 2007 that had the same problem. Investigators are now questioning whether that recall went far enough.
BMW is working to figure out the cause and develop a fix. The automaker will notify owners of affected vehicles once this has been done.
